Welcome To Shiloh

In 1989, my paternal grandparents (Gma and Gpa) bought what would become my favorite place on this planet - a little piece of property on Lake Superior. They named it Shiloh after a Hebrew word meaning rest, wanting to signify to themselves and the family and friends who would join them that this was a place to leave the rest of the world behind and relax. As it is in the middle of the woods in the UP, it is a necessity to disconnect - there is no internet or cell service - so you couldn’t be connected if you wanted.

For most of my childhood, it was a one or two week getaway for a trip Up North with all the aunts and uncles and cousins. I remember building forts with my siblings and cousins, hours of jumping in the waves of Lake Superior, and quiet moments of eating s’mores around the campfire. In 2001, my family moved to the UP. I got to spend so much more time at my favorite place, sometimes with my family, sometimes staying with Gma for a week, sometimes driving out by myself for the evening to watch the sunset.

One of my favorite parts of being at Shiloh is that there is all the time to journal, think, and have conversations with my friends and family. In 2015, while having a conversation with an aunt sitting around the fire drinking coffee, I made the decision to go to grad school and get my master’s in counseling. In 2023, my family cheered me on as I made the decision to start my own practice and then subsequently gave me all the chocolate as I started down the panic spiral of “I don’t know how to do any of it”.

When it came to naming my practice, there was no question that I would name it after my favorite place. So while my couch is not a homemade bench swing that Gpa built sitting on a bluff overlooking Lake Superior, I hope it brings you a place to rest, grow, and heal. Welcome to Shiloh.
